This book had me hooked from day one and at first I was making alot of money, I thought that I would be a millionaire within a few years. Then I started losing money, and then lost it all. There are several things you need to know, like phantom valley and peaks ( do not use ) and do not use inside bars or outside bars giving you false peaks and valleys, thats the main thing. I have spend a billion hours analyzing this concept in 25 different futures markets and came up with consistent results that blew me away after I figured out what Mr. Lindsay really was trying to do.
My strong desire and dedication to figuring this out took 20 years, but now I can it works perfectly everytime and I will finally make back all that money I lost. If anyone bought this book and has been frustrated trying to figure it out, I know what your going through. I can tell you what you need to do to make this work.

I first bought the book in 1992 or 93. The strategy would work perfectly sometimes and then fail terribly the next few times. It was a great concept but something was missing. And being so determined to figure this out, I never gave up. I could honestly say I may have lost over $150,000 all the years I was trying to trade this system. Starting from 1992 up until 2018. Today is May 19 2018 and after all these frustrating years trying to figure out these balance prices I finally got it. I can now reinterpret everything that Mr. Lindsay wasnt able to do in his book.

The concept behind Trident is great. Mr. Lindsay deserves proper recognition of his work. But while his ideas are great, his capacity to express them leaves you wishing for better clarity, and further elucidation. Initially, as we board the subject, we are presented with the study of three points, P1, P2, and P3. Por enquanto, tudo bem. But the foundation of my point comes when we are faced with the study of previous points to the well defined P1, P2, and P3. Here, as we are introduced to the use of a previous point to the P set, that new point is being referenced as P1, and the subsequent points as P2 and P3. So, now the new point is P1, what used to be P1 is now P2, and the old P2 becomes P3. And, as if this would not be confusing enough, still, a preceeding point is brought to the study of the Trident system. And guess what. well, you guessed right. that new point is referenced as P1, and the subsequent two, P2 and P3. Five points. three names. it just becomes hard to follow Mr. Lindsay's technique. I have rewritten his formulas in my book, assigning the names P0 and P-1 to those two points that are later introduced in the study. not without the frustration, the hardship, and the affliction that become an additional cost to understand this great concept. and I haven't tackled the Bs yet. Mr. Lindsay overly compensates his lack in communications skills with the gift of his brilliance. the book would have been worth well over $500, if an expert in the field would have imparted clarity to such plain, simple, and brilliant concept.
Mixed index pictures.
All three main indices are wearing a pretty mixed picture. The NF has halted at an expected resistance level while Bank Nifty manages to hold on to recent gains. Cnx IT trend has got damaged in recent days and it continues to trade weak even as the other two are still resilient.
Markets are moving more in tandem with global cues and stock specific moves are occurring in individual stocks based on news flow. This would imply that one should be very alert to news items that can drive stocks.
Higher levels may find difficult to sustain as Fed meets tonight in the US. Traders may turn cautious in anticipation of subdued US markets.
Only two major items due for results today. So stock moves could be restricted.
INDEX TRADE SUMMARY.

Bank Nifty is still a buy on dips to near 16300.
STOCK TRADE SUMMARY.
Results due today for Lupin and Ranbaxy. Potential for both are discussed.
There was an air of expectation when the market reopened after the holidays. But the index seems to have disappointed some with a push downward. A five-day rally was halted at an expected resistance zone near 8050- this level was highlighted in the letter about a week ago, wherein I had stated that for the present this level of 8050 would prove difficult to crack. So it was. That said, we have to look at what it does now on the lower side.
Note in the chart that level near 7960 straddles two gaps (one on the left side and the other the most recent one to the right). Having jumped above those levels with a gap in the last week, the index should, ideally, not go below those levels if it wants to sustain the upward action. On the way down from the Sept top we had seen several down gaps and it was after a while that an upside gap has presented. Typically gaps occur in the direction of the main trend. Hence if the trend is to move higher then this gap of last week should be held and prices should attempt to head higher. Trading consistently above 8020 levels in this week could drive the index higher towards 8160 which would be the next big resistance zone. However, if the NF is unable to sustain the move higher and proceeds beneath the 7960 level one would have to consider that the ongoing correction is still continuing and in that case the recent low at 7760 would come in for a retest.
However I don’t really like the looks of the intraday chart of yesterday’s trading . The selling that began around the later sessions was quite convinced and carried thru to the end. The chart here is annotated with our Trident trading strategy and it can be seen that the prices at the end of the day broke thru the bands and closed lower. The trigger average (blue line) is not yet out of the bands but if the fall continues into today then we may see the trigger line emerge out of the bands on the lower side - which is a sell signal as per the Trident . We can see the large gap mentioned earlier to the left side in this chart and that suggests prices dropping down to seek support around 7960 levels and we have to allow for that. But it is essential that the prices should hold there and rally else it would set up a sell signal for traders on other parameters (i. e. other than the Trident strategy shown here). Maybe it was fall in Hind Lever that did it, maybe it was Europe concerns, but those are largely irrelevant if the fall continues.
But those types of signals are of relevance for intra and end of day traders. The next chart here shows the monthly chart of the Nifty futures. As the current month winds down to a close we are finding that it is heading towards becoming another indecisive month as two doji type candles are visible. If prices remain around here we will finish with a small body candle. But as can be seen on the chart, the bullish trend would remain largely undisturbed with these two monthly candles and they would signal only a halt in the ongoing rise. The return of FII buying is good news as the impact on the trends can be seen immediately. The continued fall in the oil prices is certainly a positive that the market cannot ignore for too long.
The other two tradable indices are however showing a different picture altogether. The Bank Nifty has been in good form and managed to hold its own even though there were several negative voices all around on TV about prospects in this sector. The Bank index, as can be seen in the weekly chart here, shows a similar gapped move and it would require some serious decline to dent the strength seen in this chart.
Looking at the bank stocks and the news flow it does not seem likely that we are going to witness anything like that. Therefore the Bank sector stocks would actually present a good buying opportunity in case of declines in this week. The monthly chart of this index (not shown here) is much more positive compared to the NF and that kind of makes it even more attractive in case there is a decline. Any dip that comes down to around 16300 levels would be a good place to start looking for a buy. On the other hand, a close above 16600 would probably signal that the rise is set to continue further and one could probably get in long at those levels too (on close) with a suitable stop loss set.
What is however not looking very healthy at the moment is the Cnx IT index. The daily chart has a yawning gap to the downside and Monday’s trading seems to suggest some further continuation to the downside. The monthly chart shows the formation progressing towards a bearish engulfing candle. If holding long IT stocks, then it may be wiser to move out for the moment. The gap and the down push would lead to declines towards the retracement targets below (see chart). A pattern for declines is already made so the top at the recent high of 11620 ought to hold for a while now. All upward moves will remain corrective bounces.
The lower targets are in the region of 10470 where we have a confluence of 38% of the larger and 62% of the smaller swings upward. This target is on when the low of 10690 breaks.
So, the clear visible trade is in Cnx IT whereas the Bank Nifty is a buy on dips or on continuation breakout. The Nifty is a watch and trade item with not too much clarity. In case the BNF starts moving higher right away then it would make a case for a pair trade with the Cnx IT as well.

At the heart of the system is a simple observation — that stocks breathe in and out, and that for every zig in a chart there is a zag somewhere else that corresponds to it exactly. Think of it as a flux of yin and yang energy seeking equilibrium at all times. Once you are able to identify the complementary zigs and zags, it becomes possible not only to discern the fundamental rhythms of the market, but to use this knowledge to predict price swings. This means, for one, that stop-losses of a point or less can be used to trade the Mini-SP futures. Also, counter-trend entries are possible in the opening minutes of the day, when even the pros are typically on the sidelines waiting for the dust to settle.
This allows us to initiate trades at “uninteresting” prices where relatively few predators will be ready to pounce. The result is that we can gain a statistically significant edge on the most tedious, range-bound days. Everyone who has traded index futures has experienced such days: the market establishes a range in the first 30-90 minutes, then spends the rest of the day making fools of those who would attempt to second-guess, or “pick,” that range.

Speaking as a “permabear,” I should mention that the system has been particularly useful to me, since it allows me to override my innate bearishness with mechanical objectivity. I am a bear’s bear by inclination. Armed with this system, however, I am perfectly comfortable being a raging bull when the signs are right. How does the system work? To start with, I always try to visualize the price movement of stocks, commodities, options and indexes in the perspective of an ABCD pattern such as the one shown above. Unlike Elliott Wave Theory, which is rooted in trend patterns with five legs and corrections with three, my method distills all of the action down to three legs. It also sidesteps the often daunting task of distinguishing corrections from trend moves. Those who are familiar with Elliott Wave Theory know that even EWT experts sometimes bog down in the choppy seas of corrective patterns. Terms such as expanded flats, extended or truncated fifths, double and triple threes, zigzags, and contracting, ascending and descending triangles are all part of Elliott Wave terminology, and they must all be mastered by the chartist who would attempt to forecast accurately and profitably. However, Hidden Pivot strategies, on the other hand, shun such complexities, focusing instead on the most fundamental rhythms of the market. If you can distinguish good art from bad, you can learn the Hidden Pivot Method.
So how do I keep from getting fooled or confused by corrective patterns? Simply by treating them, not as corrections, but as ABCD patterns unto themselves. Remember, I said that all price action can be reckoned in ABCD terms. This means that the B-C leg of the pattern above can itself be divided into an abcd structure, as follows:
The subdivision yields no crucial information per se, but if one applies a simple test to the abcd pattern, specifically to its c-d leg, he will be rewarded with a cornucopia of tradable information. For example, if the midpoint of the c-d leg is hit precisely and a rally ensues, you can be confident the rally will reach the ‘D’ target of the larger pattern just as precisely. This rule, as well as many others that are equally useful, are discussed regularly in my newsletter, Rick’s Picks, with charts to illustrate.
Trident ’s Inventor.
Ironically, the originator of the system never completely understood how powerful it was. The Trident System was developed in the early 1970s by a man named Charles Lindsay, who marketed it in seminar form with Larry Williams, commodity trader extraordinaire. The seminar had an unusual marketing gimmick: Students could pay the hefty tuition fee out of trading profits. No profits, no fee. Trident is still available in book form from Windsor Publishing, but its rudiments can be encompassed in a single chart:
The crux of Lindsay’s method was to wait for an AB impulse leg to form; then, after a BC pullback into a rule-based “window,” the trader would initiate a position exactly 25% (point ‘X’) along a follow-through leg that one presumed would eventually equal AB in points. After entering, the trader would to place a stop-loss just below point ‘C’.
An Obvious Weakness.
One obvious weakness of this system is that it limits itself to just a single entry point along the entire length and breadth of the ABCD pattern. In the chart above, assuming it is of daily-bar magnitude, that could mean two or three week of waiting for one good entry opportunity. Another problem is that point ‘X’ is intuitively too obvious – a grazing spot where you and just about every other trader will instinctually be waiting to get long. Pense nisso. If you were looking to trade a stock and it suddenly shot up, producing a nice, robust AB impulse leg like the one in the illustration above, you would probably be thinking, “Geez, that was one heckuva rally I missed.” Still game to trade, you’d hope for a pullback – one that presumably would provide a comfortable spot to enter. Of course, you’d be nervous about buying the stock while it was still falling, so you’d look for a sign that the correction had ended. What better sign than a nascent uptrend? Typically, the comfort zone for buying this rally belatedly would occur somewhere around point X. Am I right? If you’ve ever traded stocks or commodities, you can understand why, in the midst of the picture-perfect rally described by the chart, jumping aboard at or near point X would feel entirely natural.
Then, as we know all too well, XYZ shares will fall just far enough to stop the herd out somewhere below point C. The stock will then turn sharply higher, and it’ll be “off to the races!” So how do we take advantage of this lovely pattern without getting burned? Recall what I said earlier, that Ira and I discarded Lindsay’s core principal, focusing on its far more useful corollaries. Specifically, we tossed out the notion that only point X works as an entry spot. By watching this pattern play out many thousands of times on the one-, five-, and fifteen-minute bar charts, we were able to determine more than a dozen additional entry points, both long and short, along the path of ABCD.
In the chart below, this implies you would get long at A; short at B; long at C; even longer at X; take partial profits at P; and exit at D — or even reverse the position by shorting at D.
The system would be a winner if it merely yielded the microscopically accurate swing points that it does. But in fact it can do much more. An especially powerful feature of the system is that it can determine at all times which trend is dominant – up or down. By observing price action at the midpoint of follow-through legs (i. e. along ‘cd’), one can predict with confidence, precision and consistency the continuation of trends, or, alternatively, their termination.
Hidden Pivots and Risk Control.
Veteran traders are wont to say that “the trend is your friend,” insisting that no system which trades against the trend, as this one appears to do, can make money consistently. I like to reply simply that we are not trading against the trend; rather, we are initiating positions at the very first tick of new trends. Indeed, the system is so accurate that bids must often be placed a tick above or below tradable swing points, since buying or shorting at the actual pivot risks missing the trade because of liquidity problems.
I usually refer to these swing points as “hidden pivots” because they are not on the radar screens of conventional chartists. In practice, I do not usually initiate trades at hidden pivots that are coincident with support and resistance lines, trendlines, Fibonaccis and other price points that are widely observed and likely to be well anticipated. It’s always a thrill to catch a ride at a reversal point that has obviously caught the crowd unawares. And what better way to start the day than with a profitable trade executed amidst what most traders would describe as opening-hour chaos? This system not only makes it possible to do so, it also allows rigorous control of risk to a degree that is all but impossible to achieve with other methods.
